Cool Change…
Cool Change.
You’ve all heard the song I’m sure.
Well maybe you need to be closer to my age or older to remember, but the beginning goes something like this
” If there is one thing in my life that’s missing
its the time I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear waters. “
“Time for
a cool change
I know that it’s time
for a cool change”
A classic song from the 70s but the Little River Band. Go ahead, fire up Spotify and play it, such a great song.
Well, when I hear that song, it reminds me of one thing that is not missing in my life, spending time alone.
But not sailing on the bright clear water, however I can replace that with riding on a smooth back road.
One of the magical things about riding motorcycles is it allows you to truly be alone, yes you can ride with friends or even have a passenger on the back but most times for me, I am truly alone while riding.
And I love that.
Being alone can help me recharge, heal and realize what are the important things in life.
It’s a way to bring peace back into my life when I’m having conflict.
It’s a way to understand that it’s okay to experience change.
You remember all the heartbreaks you’ve felt, the challenges you’ve faced and of course the obstacles you’ve overcome!
Sometimes tears can roll down my cheeks as I reflect on all the experiences I’ve had, both good and bad.
Being on my motorcycle riding down a lonely back road is usually how I prefer to experience these feelings.
Being alone also will prepare you for that time when you are not alone.
That feeling of excitement of going to see someone.
Spending time together and exploring those emotions of sharing moments with a special person.
Knowing that the other person is also excited about spending time getting to know you.
Again, another feeling I adore to experience on my motorcycle. It reminds me of a long time ago, as a 17-year-old kid riding my little Honda CB450 thru the back roads of Lancaster MA, on my way to visit my 1st serious girlfriend. She lived a few towns away, and I only knew the back roads to get there.
That little Honda was my ticket to freedom, to new experiences and to a whole new world of two wheeled adventures.
Lots of motorcycles have come into my life in the next 39 years, but that little Honda was the 1st show that time alone “Sailing on the cool and bright clear waters” wasn’t such a bad place to be.
Although, I think it might be time for a cool change!
